TITLE:               Choir Director/Organist for Contemporary Worship

 

 

PURPOSE:       To provide musical leadership for choral and congregational singing at the 8:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship each Sunday, and to direct the choir for this worship service.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:          Accountable to the Director of Music and Pastor as head of staff.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as organist and choir director for the 8:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship.
  • Accompany the congregational hymns and choral music in a supportive and musically convincing manner.
  • Be proficient in playing both the Clavinova electronic piano and the Hammond electronic organ.
  • Be knowledgeable of sacred choral repertoire in Contemporary Christian and Gospel idioms.
  • Be adequately grounded in vocal technique in order to train volunteers to form a choral ensemble.
  • Rehearse weekly with the choir at a time to be arranged in coordination with the Director of Music and the Pastor.
  • Recruit members of the congregation to sing with the choir.
  • Consult with the Pastor regarding the theme of each worship.
  • Select appropriate choral music for each worship.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Music in preparing music for combined worship services.

 

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Works in cooperation with the Director of Music and the Pastor as head of staff in planning worship.

 

 

EVALUATION:

                Performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Director of Music and the Pastor as head of staff.  The Personnel Committee will annually review the adequacy of compensation.

 

 

REQUIRMENTS:

                Currently enrolled in a college/university program to earn or already possess a bachelor’s degree.

                At least 3 years experience as a church musician.
